Cidercade Ad
This project was a collaborative effort with three other students to create a 30-second animated advertisement for Cidercade, a local arcade bar in Austin, TX. I acted as the producer and motion designer, ensuring deadlines were met while also contributing heavily to modeling, animation, and visual execution.
Below is a breakdown of the full creative process from concept to completion.
Phase One: Research & Concept Development
We began by brainstorming and pitching ideas for potential local businesses, ultimately choosing Cidercade for its vibrant and nostalgic atmosphere. To ground our work in authenticity, we visited the business, gathered reference materials, and mapped out the core message. Our concept centered on a voice-over-driven narrative, allowing us to communicate key information efficiently within the 30-second limit. Initial storyboards captured the pacing, flow, and overall arc of the ad.
Phase Two: Style & Pre-Production
Next, we explored visual direction. Drawing from our on-site research, we leaned into a high-contrast aesthetic inspired by neon lights, glowing screens, and the energetic nightlife of arcade culture. I took the lead on 3D modeling and collaborated with the team to ensure the chosen style translated seamlessly into After Effects. This stage involved extensive testing to balance bold contrasts with readability, ensuring visuals supported the narrative.
Phase Three: Animation & Refinement
With the style locked, we moved into animation. As the story evolved, we refined timing, transitions, and pacing to align with the voice-over. I was responsible for adjusting models, fine-tuning motion, and assisting teammates in technical problem-solving—such as developing animated textures and executing effects like the exploding coin sequence. Iterative revisions ensured the final ad struck the right balance between clarity, energy, and visual excitement.
